What is the difference between a private and FAIR (shared) case?
When uploading a case to GestaltMatcher Database (GMDB), you can choose whether it should be set to private or FAIR (shared). This setting determines who can access the case and if the data is used for training GestaltMatcher AI.
FAIR (shared) case
A FAIR case follows the principles of making data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable within the medical community. If the patient has provided consent for sharing:
- The case appears in the Gallery view, visible to all verified GMDB users.
- It can be included in phenotype comparisons run by other users.
- It may be used to train and test GestaltMatcher AI and other AI tools.
Private case
A private case is only visible to the clinician who uploaded it. Use this option if the patient has not consented to sharing their data beyond your clinical setting yet.
- The case does NOT appear in the Gallery.
- It cannot be accessed or viewed by other users.
- It can still be analyzed with GestaltMatcher AI by the uploading clinician.
- It can be used to train GestaltMatcher AI.
Please note that documents (e.g. clinical letters, lab reports) must always be uploaded as private, regardless of the case setting.
You can change a case from private to FAIR later, once appropriate consent has been obtained.
